Big Screen Heaven January 24, 2010 Tony Hernandez (NASHVILLE, TN, US) Great Projector for dedicated home theater. Color, with some minor tweaking, is incredible and the black levels are good enough to make you believe you're looking at a huge plasma TV. At 720P people might be tempted to spend more more for a 1080p projector but if you're not going to solely use it for Blue Ray then your are wasting money. This projector will give you as good a picture as possible with Cable, Satellite, or over the air HD because all of those are broadcast in 720P or 1080i, with the majority being 720P. I am projecting onto a 100" screen and the picture is razor sharp with HD content. BluRay looks better than the theater. There are other good 720p projectors out there but I don't think you can possibly get a better one. The only thing I'd caution against is trying to use this projector in a room with lots of lights on. You can have some ambient light and it will look great, but this projector shines when you can control the light and create a theater experience. This is my 4th projector and my best one. I have a 50" plasma and this projector in my home theater room rivals the picture and actually with BluRay looks better. Get one while they last!
One of the best values out there January 21, 2010 K. MCNAMARA (Dallas, TX) I have been using a Sony 1272 CRT projector for the last 8.5 years. It has served us well and we've been pleased with it. A few months ago it started having some deflection problems and, not knowing how to fix it myself or knowing anyone around who could fix it, I decided it was time to retire the old projector. Our theater room seating is about 12' - 14' away from the 92" 16:9 screen. We have decent but not great ambient light control. I read all the reviews I could find on the Sanyo and the only real knock anyone gave it was that it wasn't as bright as some other similar projectors. I considered a couple of 1080P projectors but given our distance from the screen and it's size, I felt confident that screen door effect wouldn't be an issue. This met my specs so I went ahead and ordered it. It's now a discontinued model so it's becoming more difficult to find but got a good deal here at Amazon.
So I've got it installed now. The best word I can use to describe it is WOW! This is a significant upgrade over what I had. The brightness issue is silly because, even if it's not as bright as some other projectors, it's still way brighter than my old projector. And the sharpness and color right out of the box were fantastic. It's great to see my Blu-Ray's truly shine now. The menu system is easy to use and I tweaked the settings a little based on one of the reviews at [...]. Looks even better now. I don't think I could be more pleased with my purchase. And I'm glad I saved the [...]+ I would've had to spend on a 1080P unit as the sharpness and resolution looks great at our seating distance on that screen size.
My recommendation is that if you can still find one for under $800, go for it. I doubt you'll be disappointed.
Great projector November 10, 2009 Gusbuster (Detroit, MI) First projetor purchase for my new basement. Looks great in cinema mode and fantastic for movies. Lose some for sports but in high def they still look great. Experience is great. set up is a snap.
Installation is easy.
Fan a little loud but not bad with good sound system.
Really love it!
Great Buy October 13, 2009 J. Alderfer Great picture and setup was easy. The projector has manual lens shift which is critical with ceiling mounting. Fan is a little noisy, but not distracting. Definitely a good buy.
Excellent projector for its price class September 10, 2009 John M. Godden 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've owned the PLV-Z60 for 7 months (100+ hours of operation) now and find it to be a very good projector for smaller screens. I have a 72" screen and find the IQ to be very good. Note: If you want a screen of 90" or bigger then get a 1080P projector. Carlton Bale has an excellent web site that discussing this resolution/screen-size issue.
My unit has a slightly noisy fan even when using Cinema mode ................ hence the 4 star rating. It certainly isn't silent like other reviewers have stated. I'll probably run this projector for another year or two before switching to a 1080P projector.
